About the Name Owain

When the emotionally expressive letter O conjoins with the wild, wooly, whimsical letter W, it creates a howling sound that conjures images of the untamed spirit found in the words: rowdy, billowy, cowboy, flowing, power, showy, and growl. The saying you can’t keep a good man down might well have been coined for an OW personality, for his devil-may-care mode of existence comes with its fair share of mishaps. But what defines this person’s resilient and restless spirit, is his ability to casually shrug off defeat

If you want to impress an OW, buy him a set of luggage for his birthday, because this guy is going places. He may not know where (nor have the money to get there), but sooner or later you’re going to get a postcard from a country you’ve never heard of. The OW is simply not designed to sit still and will resent and avoid anyone who tries to clip his wings. And while he may slow down with age, you still won’t find him holding down the couch unless there’s a good travel show on the tube. His love for discovery sometimes expresses itself in unexpected ways; perhaps he’ll sign up for pottery lessons, or maybe he’ll take up the bagpipes. Neighbors usually pray for the former.

OWs require a little more money than most people. And it’s not because they’re profligate, it’s just that running an OW life can be expensive what with all that generous giving and expensive exploration marking his social style. If people leave him to his own devices and trust his intentions, the OW will come through every time. He has enough indefatigable energy to go around and he’ll happily spend his spare time selling others his philosophy of living one’s dreams. So don’t idly wish for something in his presence (“I’ve always wanted to go to Nepal”) or he’ll hound you until you have the plane tickets in your hands. Because he’s not the type to break a pledge, he’s careful about what he promises and is unlikely to over-commit his limited free time.

Though settling down is not high on his list of things to do, the OW will fall in love from time to time, and will be happiest when bound to a partner who shares his wanderlust. His need for companionship may even trump his need for adventure for a short while, but it’s just a matter of time before he resumes his wandering and eremitic ways.
