About the Name Joshua

The names Josh and Joshua enjoyed a popular resurgence in the 1990’s and are now on the top ten list of boy’s names under the age of twelve. This popularity may have something to do with the JSH phoneme’s rare combination of insight, sensitivity and wisdom. For when words contains the SH phoneme, they usually convey a sense of sensitivity and calm; like a mother protectively soothing a crying child (hush, shh, shy, shalom (peace), shade, shield and shroud). And like most people whose names begin with the judicious and just letter J, JSHs are introspective and intuitive when it comes to interacting with the world at large.

But because of the high expectations imposed on him by parents or teachers, it’s not unusual for a JSH to get off track. They are certainly more sensitive than most and are particularly vulnerable to getting stepped on by more aggressive personalities. JSHs also have a tendency to let their hearts rule their lives, and often make major life decisions based on their emotional states instead of relying on their intellectual judgments. If some people underestimate their uncommon intelligence, it’s because JSHs are much more likely to listen than talk.

When it comes to their careers, the JSH seem to have a mixed-brain-dominance; his ambidextrous mind operates equally well in right-brained and left-brained pursuits. But having so much potential has its drawbacks too, and he often battles to find a career path that will keep them stimulated. Still, once he’s found a job that provides the kind of emotional and financial rewards he feels he deserves; he’ll probably prove to be an extraordinarily loyal worker. If given the choice, the JSH will choose a job that allows him to flex his mental muscles: teaching science or philosophy would be right up his alley.

If you’re looking for a steady source of support and dependability in your love life, a JSH is the mate for you. Once he makes the leap (for he’d never actually fall) into love, he’s in it for better or worse. You can gain thirty pounds, shave your head or become a nun, and he’ll still remain by your side. He is every girl’s mother’s dream, but he’s not the type to write impassioned poetry or strum a guitar outside anyone’s window. At best he’ll slap a ring on your finger and expect you figure out what to do with it.

But don’t let his apparent aloofness put you off. If you want to know the secret motivation in the JSH’s romantic life; it’s that all he wants is to be the shining star in your universe.
