About the Name Anna

Because the letter A tends to be associated with all that is autocratic, authoritative and arrogant, and the letter N is the letter of no, never, not, nowhere, nothing, naught, nyet and nada, the somewhat nasal AN name root evokes an interesting meld of self-confidence and pessimism. These properties can be seen in many words that begin with the AN root, (anger, antagonize, anxious, anti, anguish and annoy)and perhaps accounts for the fickle tendencies of the AN’s emotional baseline. Those who use the lighthearted and youthful Y at the end of their names (Annie, Ansley, Anaya, and Anya), offset this negativity by signaling a somewhat more approachable personality.

Even if these names exude a nobility and refinement reminiscent of English gentry, ANs are anything but Victorian. On the contrary, they are almost invariably passionate and even positively heady. It’s their unique combination of the sensual and the divine that makes them so irresistible to the opposite sex, and ANs are not unaware -- nor afraid -- to use these charms. This is why ANs are typically confident and extroverted, and why they pull few punches in their relationships. Strong without being abrasive, if you’re ever down on your luck and in need of an encouraging word, you should call on one of your AN friends. They will almost always have something positive to say, and while this may not put money in your wallet, they have a way of making you feel a little richer.

These are not names designed for hard-core business success. The independent AN personality prefers playing in the limelight (show business in particular) wherein they can indulge their playful and sensual charisma. Still, they always retain that cool inner distance and resent the familiarity of strangers. Their bonding instincts are satisfied through relationships with just a few close friends, although there’s usually a troupe of casual acquaintances demanding their attentions.

Problems arise when an AN gives in to the creeping ennui of everyday life. They are people who need constant stimulation, and in their worst moods can become quite cranky and pessimistic, forcing partners to drag them out of their rut. And although these articulate and intelligent creatures can express their ideas clearly, they struggle to do the same with their emotions. Consequently, loved ones must tread softly in the realm of conflict lest the ANs shut their feelings in, and them out. But once you’ve garnered an AN’s trust, you’ll be blessed with a partner who’ll stop at nothing to make you happy.
