In the ALK name root, the autocratic letter A loses some of its arrogance when paired with the laughing, lilting letter L and the crisply concise letter C (or letter K). The overall effect of these names is therefore one of supreme self-confidence tempered by an ability to laugh; even in the face of embarrassment. In fact, there’s no such thing as embarrassment in the ALK’s life… why would anyone deign to laugh at him when the joke is really on everyone else? With his unmatched confidence and dazzling smile, he really believes that anything’s possible and usually manages to prove it.
As goofy as the ALK can be at times, life is hardly all fun and games. He has a decidedly serious side and a book-knowledge that would shame a city library. You could say he’s a student of life -- in the way he carefully analyzes every little event and nuance that goes on around him -- and is deeply interested in discerning the motivations of others. So don’t be surprised to find your ALK friend watching you attentively, even coolly, as you go through the ups and downs of your daily life. His is not the softest shoulder on which to cry when your girlfriend runs off with your personal trainer, but if anyone can restore your sense of humor, it’s going to be an ALK.
Though the ALK isn’t necessarily career driven, he does manage to find success -- or perhaps it finds him—in almost all his endeavors. This might be partly due to his stubborn refusal to give up when the going gets tough, but more than likely it has to do with his extraordinary range of talents. He is a jack-of-all-trades who seems to specialize in everything.
Perhaps his analytical approach to life is responsible for holding the ALK back in his tangles with romance. It’s not that women aren’t drawn to him, mind you -- he practically has to sweep them off the doorstep every time he leaves the house — but he just doesn’t seem to get the finer points of romance. And his trademark smile isn’t always enough to rescue him after some well-intended but flippant remark. Still, it must be said that because his confidence is unshakable (and eminently attractive), he’s likely to simply brush off his shirtsleeves before moving on to the next lucky victim.
Eventually his instincts will kick in long enough to help him play the sensitive man role so yearned for in the dating world. And once it does, the ALK will make a suave lover, a best friend, and a sparring partner on the road to the happily-ever-after.
