About the Name Game

Even though the G names are dominated by the gruff letter G (found in the words grim, grievous, glory, governor, God, and gumption), whenever a name ends with a vowel sound, it has the effect of eliminating all traces of vanity and indulgence. This is why the names Gay, Gia and Gaye resonate with such an attractive combination of humor and strength, while the names Gaige and Gage (both recent additions to the list of top one thousand boys’ names) are considerably more masculine in their appeal.

People are naturally drawn to the G’s unassuming good-natured camaraderie. But because being friendly isn’t necessarily the same as being faithful, those who bear G names must fight against preconceived notions that they are self-indulgent heart breakers. It might be true that some deserve this reputation (for young Gs often do take advantage of their appeal to the opposite sex), but it would be unfair to characterize them as selfish. These are people-pleasers at heart whose lives are dictated by what others might think of them. Under pressure to live up these expectations, Gs often have a tendency to bite off more than they can chew.

Career-wise, Gs don’t have to struggle to find a job. Most employers appreciate their good-natured knack for being team players and they are capable of making a living in anything from construction work to accounting. But many secretly yearn to own their own businesses, and those that do, usually succeed because of their knack for inspiring others to do their best. Often, for the sake of doing the “right thing”, Gs may stay in jobs that don’t completely satisfy them. If nothing else, Gs have a well-developed sense of ethics and will err on the side of loyalty when it comes to staying on their boss’ good side. Sooner or later though, Gs will figure out that they’re really not much use to anyone if they’re not happy with themselves, and assert their secret desire to rebel. This is why a high percentage of Gs end up working for themselves as small business owners or consultants.

Casual dating with such a reliable person would seem like a cinch; except that it's not. The more intimate you get with a G, the more you’ll sense their need to control the minutiae of the relationship. Still, the determined Gs willeventually burrow their way into intimate relationships and thrive on the mutual give-and-take of exclusive partnerships. If there’s any danger to this hunger for intimacy, it’s their tendency to enter into premature commitments that both parties invariably wind up regretting.
