People who bear EDW names display the same subtle internal conflicts that characterize most everyone whose names begin with an ED. In part this is due to the letter E’s association with extroverted excitement and its union with the dignified and dapper letter D. These two letterscreate the sense of enlightenment found in the words: educate, editorialize, edifying, edgy and edict. The wonderfully wild and weird letter W lends a delicious hint of the dark side and may explain why so many EDW people feel themselves to be misunderstood. In addition, since all these people insist on being called by their formal given names (rather than the more casual Eddy or Ed), they tend to exude a more self-aggrandizing air.
There’s an air of unshakable solidity to these individuals that many people misinterpret to be stuffiness. The fact is that EDWs are not anti-social. On the contrary, they make friends easily and their demonstrative advances are often quite irresistible to the opposite sex. Their quirkiness practically guarantee that that people will remember them and their humor and fashion styles are deliberately chosen to avoid mainstream trends. More than any other, it’s their idiosyncratic characteristics that define the EDWs’ to-thine-own-self- be-true philosophy, although its downside is their alienation from conventional relationships. EDWs may not be particularly concerned about what other people think about them, but they are clearly emotionally driven and easily hurt by careless words. As much as EDWs can be loyal friends, they can also prove to be equally powerful enemies.
Even with their strong resolve and independent agendas, EDWs have a secret desire to please and have few problems with sustaining relationships -- even with demanding partners. But any concessions EDWs make really only applies to the important issues in a relationship… where to live and how to raise the children. When it comes to the little things you’ll find they can be decidedly picky: how the living room is decorated, where the family spends its vacations, and who gets the drumstick.
Despite these foibles, the EDW makes for a steady and dependable mate who, once settled, will be there for the long-haul. But always expect the unexpected. There will be occasions when the EDW gets a bee in his or her bonnet and charges off on a life-changing tangent without first checking to see if you’re in tow. That’s why the EDW’s children will be encouraged to find their own paths in life and will appreciate the non-pressure guidance from their wholly non-judgmental parent.
