Although the nasally pronounced letter N often conveys an element of negativity to words it initializes, it also has a nurturing side that can be seen in the words: nanny, natal, nourish, and nice. And when the N teams up with the letter M – the powerhouse of maternal, motherly goodness – it generates the unmistakable sense of sensual vigor found in the words nymph, dynamo, nimble, enigmatic, and animalistic. At heart, NM people are emotional caretakers who work hard at nourishing the people around them. Whether they do this through domestic avenues like cooking and mothering, or professional avenues like nursing, counseling or relief work, these people derive a great deal of their self worth from their altruistic exploits.
The NM’s nurturing bent can prove a bit cloying to those who don’t appreciate having a caretaker in their lives, and every now and then she may find herself being avoided or rebuffed. But because nothing makes the NM happier than when someone pays attention to their advice, they don’t allow these occasional setbacks to sway them from what they believe to be their duty. Still, there are limits: an NM’s friends will be showered with gifts and parties but far less so with hugs and kisses. Indeed, the NM’s affections often manifest themselves with lectures and sermons on how their loved ones should conduct their lives.
NMs are humble people who derive no particular satisfaction from materialistic symbols like owning the biggest house on the block; the perfect setting for them is one in which they are surrounded by family or close friends. Their peace of mind comes from the knowledge that their relationships are growing and that their roots are strong.
Even though NMs would never be accused of hogging the spotlight, they’re not above indulging in a little smugness from time to time… especially when family members achieve something special. But this kind of attention-getting is really a small part of the NMs’ persona, and they’re much happier when orchestrating events from the wings. This is why NM women love their homes which usually reflect their unassuming dispositions: immaculately clean kitchens and understated furniture.
But as much as NMs crave the security of rooted home lives, they’ll be ready to move at the drop of a hat if it it’s going to help their spouse with a new job or their child with a new school. This knee-jerk philanthropic attitude really defines the NM personality, and those who are lucky enough to have one in their lives, should never take them for granted.
