About the Name Channel

The CH combination of letters produces the clear sense of charming cheekiness that we find in the words cherub, champion, chafe, challenge, and chipper. But in the CHN names, the appearance of the negative letter N (no, not, never, nyet, nada, nix, nein, nothing, and naught) colors these names with the self-doubt found in the words; chagrin, chink, chintzy, aching, chancy, and chiding. Although the name Chandler is in this group, these are largely feminine names that suggest the feminine virtues of nurturing and emotional awareness. In Elizabethan England, silence was considered to be the central feminine virtue. They had obviously never met a CHN.

CHNs are not shy about giving unsolicited advice or the occasional parental lecture, but their communication suffers when they demonstrate their tendency get a little shrill in the face of conflict. On the bright side, the need to argue with these bright people is rare; their sense of fairness usually mitigates tensions before they have a chance to mature. Besides, few people can resist their big-eyed charming appeal for long.

There’s a strange thing about CHNs of both sexes. No matter how much they achieve in their lives, or how many compliments they get for their ability to handle themselves, they secretly believe that it’s just a matter of time before they’re ‘found out’. If they had just a fraction of the confidence that others have of them, there is almost nothing that they couldn’t achieve.

Even with their penchant to wallow in cynicism, these are people with distinctly clear agendas. And never mistake the CHNs’ gentleness for fragility: these are no wilting lilies. Fragrant and charming they may be, but if you’re looking for a domesticated partner, these are not for you. In fact, many CHNs have been known to place their relationships on hold to chase down a promising career, or just for the chance to wander freely.

Family life seems to require some effort on the part of the freedom-loving CHNs. Their fiercely defended independence dissolves into feelings of claustrophobia when there are too many demands on their time and emotional energies. But provided that their mates are prepared to tolerate their free spirits, they’ll prove to be warmly affectionate and not the least bit needy.   Oh, and with their love for physical challenges, be warned that CHNs are piquant lovers. Potential mates should be prepared for fireworks in the bedroom.
