About the Name Catherine

The feminine CTH root practically oozes likeability and character, and the bearers of these names exude an extraordinary charisma. The sharp edges of the crisp letter C take the credit for all her cutting-edges, while the TH combination injects the kind of altruistic dignity associated with all things thoughtful: thankful, fatherly, motherly, theology, theatre, and theoretical.

Never ones to beat around the bush, you’ll never have to guess where you stand with a CTH. This might prove a little intimidating to the more timid personalities; but as far as the CTH isconcerned, if you can’t take her heat, stay out of her kitchen. The phrase “the best man for the job is a woman” could well have been written with a CTH in mind, so don’t make the unfortunate mistake of telling her that she can’t be the best at something. If she wants to be a fighter pilot or a mob boss… no one’s gonna stand in her way. This is why CTHs are most comfortable in management and supervisory positions where their natural authority can be applied with characteristic fairness.

CTHs have the capacity to feel genuine empathy for people but their dictatorial styles often cloud the source of their intended compassion. CTHs believe that the more control people have over their lives; the better off they’ll be. So their approach to counseling others includes a not-so-gentle shove here and there, and many employees and acquaintances end up having love-hate relationships with them. They soon learn however, that they’re not being unreasonable; they’re just having a little trouble in suppressing their desire to improve the lives of those around them.

The CTHs’ spiritual side (which lends itself to astrology and poetry) reflects her refusal to accept reality at face value. Their sense of well-being comes from a place deep within, and certainly not from the trappings of a prestigious job or a fancy car (which is fortunate, because CTHs are unlikely to make it onto the Forbes 1000).

CTHs respect autonomy in others, and seek to be matched with life partners who are their equals in strength and conviction. As usually occurs when two strong people get together, there is likely to be some tension in the relationship. But CTHs are calm in battle, holding their emotions in reserve for a time when they can befriend the “enemy” once again. They exhibit this same coolness in their parenting styles: always fair and always in control.
